Description

This dataset presents a collection of time-velocity series from hot wire measurements in an aerodynamic channel. Measurements were performed in the wake of single cylinders, with diameters of 25.1, 32 and 50 mm, and a Reynolds number varying from 8.25×10³ to 5.17×10^4 with a sampling frequency of 1000 Hz and a low pass filter at 300 Hz. Each data series has 2^17 elements, corresponding to a time of 131.072 s.

Steps to reproduce

Instantaneous velocity measurements were made by means of a DANTEC StreamLine hot wire anemometer in an aerodynamic channel. A single hot wire probe was placed at the wake region downstream the cylinder at various positions dependening on the cylinder diameter. Data acquisition was performed with a 16-bit A/D-board (NI 9215-A) with USB interface through software DANTEC StreamWare 3.4, with a sampling frequency of 1000 Hz and a low pass filter at 300 Hz. Each data series has 2^17 elements, corresponding to a time of 131.072 s. The aerodynamic channel was the same as used by de Paula and Möller, 2013 and 2018, Fig. 1. It was made of acrylic, with a cross section of 0.147 m in height and 0.193 m in width. Air, at room temperature, was the working fluid, driven by a centrifugal blower of 0.75 kW, passed by a diffuser and a set of grids, honeycombs and screens, which reduced the turbulence intensity in the channel to about 1%. A frequency inverter controlled the blower speed, so that the flow velocity in the aerodynamic channel could be varied from 0 to 16 m/s. To measure the reference velocity, a Pitot tube fixed before the test section was used. Reference velocity, together with the cylinder diameter, was used for the calculation of the Reynolds number of the experiments, with values varied from Re = 8.25×10^3 to Re = 5.17×10^4.
