Description

This document includes the XRD patterns files of Fe and Mg as-received powder, and Fe, Mg, and Fe-5wt%Mg after 16 hours of high energy ball milling. In addition, XRD patterns of Fe, Fe16h and Fe5Mg16h powders immersed in modified Hanks' solution for 3 and 14 days are also presented. The starting hypothesis is that after immersion the reaction products are different depending on the initial powder and the immersion time. This hypothesis is corroborated when quantitative Rietveld analysing is performed. These results are gathered in Table 2 of the manuscript. The measurements were performed with a Bruker AXS D8 diffractometer equipped with a Co X-ray tube, especially suited for iron-rich samples, working at a current of 30 mA and a voltage of 40 kV. The XRD data were collected over a 2θ range of 30–120° with a step size of 0.02°.
