In the current study, using a high-throughput sequencing (HTS)-based metagenomic approach, we identified diverse ARG subtypes in a natural mining soil ecosystem, indicating that these environmental habitats are an important reservoir of ARGs. Using independent genome binning, we further demonstrated that metal(loid)-induced coselection facilitate the occurrence and dissemination of ARGs in this type of soil habitat. More importantly, we showed that a type III secretion system (T3SS), which may cause human infection, is present in the two assembly scaffolds.
