Description
This dataset contains the replication materials for the study “Green for Me, Costs for Thee: Who Is Willing to Pay for the Green Transition?”. The study examines individual support for two fiscal climate-policy instruments: increased taxation of fossil fuels and public subsidies for renewable energy. The empirical analysis is based on two European survey datasets collected in different periods. The first part uses data from the European Social Survey Round 8, conducted in 2016–2017. The second part uses data from the Make It Green survey covering respondents from 11 European countries. The datasets are analysed separately because they differ in country coverage, sample composition, survey period, and the availability and definition of explanatory variables. The repository includes the analytical materials necessary to reproduce the main results presented in the article, including data-processing files, variable definitions, model specifications, estimation code, and supporting documentation. The empirical analysis uses ordinal logistic regression models to identify the economic, socio-demographic, political, institutional, and environmental factors associated with support for fossil-fuel taxes and renewable-energy subsidies. The original survey data are not redistributed where this is restricted by the terms of use of the respective data providers. In such cases, the repository provides instructions for obtaining the original data and reproducing the analytical samples used in the study.
