Effect of Strain-Counterstrain in Combination With Phonophoresis in Patients with Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction: A Quasi-Experimental Study.
Description
BACKGROUND: Any instability related to the Temporomandibular joint or surrounding structures of the joint results in increasing pain .It is characterized by pain, reduced function, limitation in jaw mobility. It has great impact on quality of life of patients as its functional is directly related to feeding, emotional expression and social health etc. AIM: This study was focused on determining the effect of strain-counterstrain in combination with phonophoresis on pain and mouth opening in TMJ Dysfunction. METHOD: The study was included the age of 20-45 years in TMJ Dysfunction to allocate a single treatment group (strain- counterstrain and phonophoresis). Outcome Jaw Functional Limitation Scale-8 was used to measure the jaw disability, Numeric Rating Scale was used for pain . The outcomes were measured performed at baseline and after 3 weeks of treatment. Data was collected, analyzed and elucidate for results. DISCUSSION: This study to compares the effects of Strain-counterstrain and phonophoresis of pain and orofacial function of patients with TMD dysfunction. Strain-counterstrain and modality are treatment options for lessen the pain and correspondingly function of massters muscles. .RESULTS: The finding of the study showed that Strain-Counterstrain with Phonophoresis was found to be resulted and effective significant improvement in all the variables (P=<0.05). CONCLUSION: This study proved Stain-Counterstrain and Phonophoresis as treatment to improve the symptoms in individual with TMJ dysfunction.
