MAMMALS IN ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK
Description
This dataset contains field observations of mammals collected in Arusha National Park, northern Tanzania, as part of a study investigating mammal species composition, abundance, diversity, distribution, and habitat associations across different environmental conditions. The dataset comprises 104 mammal observation records collected during systematic field surveys using transect-based sampling. Each record represents an observation of an individual species or group of mammals encountered during the survey. The dataset includes information on survey season, transect type, transect identification code, sample number, observation time, species identity, scientific name, taxonomic order and family, and conservation status according to the IUCN Red List classification recorded during the study. The dataset also contains demographic information, including the number of individuals observed, group size, adult male and female composition, sub-adult and young individuals, where these were identifiable. Spatial and environmental information includes GPS coordinates, altitude, altitude category, habitat type, distance travelled, and perpendicular observation distance. Behavioural observations, animal signs, human activities encountered during surveys, and the distinction between direct and indirect observations are also recorded.
