CPEC-Tourism-Cultural Conservation: Survey Data on Perceptions and Opinions from Regions on CPEC Route in Gilgit-Baltistan
This data set contains raw primary data collected via a questionnaire from local residents in the research area. The questionnaire consists of different parts comprising questions about socioeconomic and demographic indicators and questions regarding the variables of culture, wellbeing, youth and CPEC. Stratified sampling technique has been used, in which the population is divided into different subgroups (strata) and members are selected from each group randomly. The strata for this research are: • Strata 1: local people who had direct regular contact with tourists and dependent on tourism for their income. (travel guide, tour operators, hotel management) • Strata 2: local residents who had regular contact with tourists but they were not dependent on tourism for income. (management of fort e.g. guide etc,) and local residents who had indirect or no frequent contact with tourists and received only a part of their income from tourism. (shop keepers, restaurant ) • Strata 3: local people who had no contact with tourists or saw them only in the passing. (teachers, workers, etc) The sample was collected from the areas including Gilgit city, Danyore, Sultanabad, Hoper, Karimabad, Aliabad, Altit, Ganish, Gulmit, Passu, Chillas city, Raikot, Jaghlot, Guro. A sample size of 385 was determined with a 95% confidence interval but after incorporating for the incompletely filled questionnaire we had 336 useful responses remaining. Pilot study was performed in November 2018, and data was collected from Gilgit city whereas the field survey was completed in three months from December 2018 to February 2019. The questionnaire was structured using a 5 Likert scale with 1 representing "strongly disagree" and 5 "strongly agree".
