Description

The database contains both raw measurement data and processed data as well. Raw data describing the measurements of air pollution comes from the environmental monitoring network of the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection (GIOŚ) in Poland. Measures taken by the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection are based on criteria set out in Directive 2008/50/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 May 2008 on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe, and Directive 2004/107/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 December 2004 relating to arsenic, cadmium, nickel, mercury and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in ambient air. Accordingly, the air levels assessed are SO2, NO2, CO, C6H6, O3, PM10, PM2.5 as well as heavy metals and benzo(a)pyrene determined in PM10. The data are freely available to everyone, however, the raw data express daily measurements, which require prior processing and averaging to monthly and yearly averages. The dataset cover measuring points all over Poland, however, the number of measurements of individual pollutants varies, which results from the fact that not all measuring stations measure the same set of parameters. The air quality assessment is conducted in 46 zones, consisting of 12 agglomerations, 18 cities of more than 100,000 inhabitants, and 16 voivodeship areas which do not include the above-mentioned agglomerations and cities of more than 100,000 inhabitants. The number of measuring points for individual pollutants is given below: - PM10: 156 measurement stations; - PM2.5: 65 measurement stations; - B(a)P: 131 measurement stations; - SO2: 123 measurement stations; - NOx and NO2: 133 measurement stations; - CO: 71 measurement stations.
