Description

A combination of geophysical and geotechnical data was used for this study. The geophysical data includes 250m dipole dipole psuedosection 2D map, and isograpgh, four (4) geoelectric curves Table 1 and (Figure 1-5), while the geotechnical data are soil samples obtained from four (4) pits (Figure 6-9) stretching across both the stable and unstable sections of the road (Table 2 and 3). Profiling was conducted using dipole – dipole array on a 250m traverse. Four (4) pits at 80m intervals were dug to a total depth of 1.5m in all for collecting soil samples for analysis. Two (2) pits (P2 & 3) were selected within the failed section and two control-sites (P1&4). Three samples were taken from each of the pits at depth intervals of 0.5m, 1.0m and 1.5m respectively. The soil samples were subjected geotechnical analysis including; Moisture content, Specific gravity test, Grain size distribution analysis, Consistency/Atterberg limit test, Compaction test following the procedures stipulated by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. Moisture content of the soil samples were determined prior to air drying.
