Genetic fingerprinting, also known as DNA profiling, is a powerful forensic tool used to identify individuals based on their unique genetic makeup. It works by examining specific regions of the DNA that vary greatly among individuals, often focusing on non-coding regions like short tandem repeats (STRs). Since these genetic markers are highly individualized, DNA profiling can provide a high degree of certainty in identifying or excluding potential suspects in criminal investigations.In addition to its forensic uses, genetic fingerprinting is also applied in paternity testing, identifying human remains, and verifying biological relationships in civil disputes. Its ability to match individuals to specific genetic traits makes it an essential and reliable tool in both criminal and civil litigation
