Approaches to Urban Studies in Areas of Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic.
Description
The municipality of Santo Domingo Este is one of the most dynamic areas in terms of population growth and urban transformation in the province of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, presenting significant challenges and opportunities in terms of orderly growth, mobility, infrastructure, public space, and environmental sustainability. This series of urban studies has been produced with the main purpose of providing an overview of the territory of Santo Domingo Este through the collection and analysis of urban data, in order to offer a clearer understanding and reference point for this little-explored and little-studied area of Santo Domingo. The series is conceptually structured around the study of the physical aspects of the territory and the principles established by the Sustainable Development Goals as indicators for the study, especially SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, thus promoting, after understanding the existing situation, possible interventions aimed at inclusion, resilience, and improvement of quality of life. Each volume represents an academic approach applied to a specific sector, contributing to the progressive construction of systematized territorial knowledge about the municipality. The information provided was collected by students using a mixed exploratory-descriptive methodology, through a pedagogical approach based on situated learning and applied research, using the real territory as a laboratory for analysis. The main evidence presented in the conclusion indicates that Santo Domingo Este has many deficiencies in terms of physical, environmental, and socioeconomic factors, but at the same time, there are many opportunities for planning and reorganizing the territory.
