Photovoltaic Generation Dataset from the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo, Serra, Brazil
Description
This dataset comprises historical records of photovoltaic generation in the city of Serra, ES, Brazil, obtained through automated web-scraping scripts from two distinct sources: KSTAR (referring to the Laboratório Espaço Energia — Casa Solar — 3.0 kWp) and SolarPortal (referring to the main generation panels of the Ifes Campus Serra photovoltaic plant — 119.0 kWp). For the Ifes plant panels, the raw data covers the period from January 2023 to July 2025, whereas for the Casa Solar, the available records span from September 2023 to July 2025. Additionally, a set of processed data was produced, also through automated scripts, covering the period from December 2024 to July 2025. In the case of the Ifes plant solar modules, raw measurements were provided on a weekly basis from January 2023 until November 2024, after which they were made available exclusively in daily format. A unified version of the processed data is also available, consolidated into a single .csv file for each source. This collection constitutes an essential foundation for analyses and diagnostics of the performance and operation of photovoltaic devices, as well as for assessing their impacts on the campus. Furthermore, it represents a valuable resource for teaching, research, and outreach activities within the academic community.

Data Processing – “Planta IFES”: i) Renaming and standardization of date formats with the creation of a UTC time column in addition to UTC-3 (Brasília time); ii) Each internal sheet (inverter) is concatenated into a final dataset, aggregated into a unified time basis with 15-minute intervals; iii) Temperature, electric current, and power are calculated as interval averages. Temperature corresponds to the mean value among the inverters, while electric current and power are obtained as sums; iv) The generated energy in kilowatt-hours (kWh) is obtained by multiplying the instantaneous electrical power (in watts) recorded in each row by the time interval of 1.0167 minutes, and dividing by 60,000. The numerator (1.0167) results from the conversion of one minute and one second into minutes. The denominator (60,000) simultaneously converts minutes into hours and watts into kilowatts. This factor decomposes into 60 (minutes per hour) multiplied by 1000 (watts per kilowatt). Hence, the formula represents the effective energy generated per interval; v) “Operating Mode” is represented as a fraction that indicates how many of the modules, relative to the total, were functioning under “Normal” conditions throughout the interval. Data Processing – “Casa Solar”: i) Renaming and standardization of date formats with the creation of a UTC time column in addition to UTC-3 (Brasília time);
