Description

This is a prospective dataset of all Norwegian two-sex marriages formed between 1981 and 2013. All marriages are followed from their date of marriage until they were ended by death, divorce or end of data collection. To follow all marriages I used the personal ID to make shure the same two persons were married for each successive year. The data is aggregated data where all marriages formed in one calendar year were compiled and the data presents the results for each cohort. The data was produced by a special order from Norway Statistics. Marriages were sorted by previous marriage status into four groups: (1) First–first, comprising all marriages in which both spouses were married for their first time. (2) First–second, comprising all marriages in which one of the spouses had been married once before. (3) Second–second, comprising all marriages in which both spouses had been married once before. (4) Third or more, comprising all marriages in which at least one of the spouses had been married twice or more before. The Excel file holds the original data with population and acumulated number of divorced couples for each cohort. Each of the four groups are stored in separate sheets in Excel format and all sheets are available as SCV files in a separate folder.
