This paper examines the relationship between community protection of drug trafficking routes, the rural economy, and public security in Guatemala. Its purpose is to explain how surveillance, protection, transportation, and logistical support tasks alter employment, local markets, territorial control, and state legitimacy. The study used a qualitative, documentary, and explanatory design based on a review of academic studies, institutional reports, national regulations, and specialized reports on drug trafficking, illicit routes, and rural economies.
