A combination of convenience sampling and snowball sampling was adopted to select participants. The target population consisted of non-native English-speaking students whose first languages included Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, and other languages. A total of 561 questionnaires were collected. After removing invalid responses (e.g., random or overly rapid answers), 550 valid questionnaires remained, yielding a response rate of 98.04%. The questionnaires were distributed both online (via Wenjuanxing and WeChat platforms) and offline (on university campuses), covering students of different ages, educational levels, and linguistic backgrounds. All participants reported using generative artificial intelligence for academic writing. This approach aimed to enhance the diversity of the sample. The questionnaire was completed anonymously. To improve the authenticity and completeness of responses, a modest incentive was provided upon completion.
