Description

This dataset contains the raw and processed experimental data associated with the study entitled “Effects of Fault Gouge Composition and Confining Pressure on Friction and Instability.” The experiments were conducted using cylindrical specimens containing gouge-filled saw-cut fractures in a conventional triaxial compression apparatus. Three contrasting fault-gouge assemblages were tested under confining pressures of 4, 7, 10, and 13 MPa. The dataset is organized into two main components: Rock-mechanics data, containing the mechanical loading and frictional-response records. Acoustic-emission data, containing the detected AE events, waveform parameters, and source-location results. The three tested materials represent a rock-particle-rich gouge, a natural mixed gouge, and a clay-rich gouge. The tests were conducted under oven-dried, room-temperature conditions without externally imposed pore-fluid pressure. The velocity-stepping stages covered the low-velocity range of 0.1–10 μm/s.
