Description

We present a detailed biostratigraphic and chronostratigraphic framework for onshore deposits in Colombia, using calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy from the Caribbean, Pacific, and inter-Andean basins. Our findings reveal a strong correlation between nannofossil biostratigraphy and the historical biostratigraphic framework established using mollusks, foraminifera, palynology, and ammonites. Despite preservation challenges in certain deposits, the integration of our results with existing data has enabled the construction of a comprehensive regional view of the northwestern South American basins. This framework provides a foundation for understanding the paleoenvironments and geological evolution of the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean.
