Description

This study tested the hypothesis that two structured colposcopic scoring systems — the Reid Colposcopic Index (RCI) and the Swede Score — differ in their ability to detect high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2 or worse) in Nigerian women attending a colposcopy clinic. The dataset contains colposcopic findings, scoring data, and histopathology results from 98 women prospectively recruited at a Nigerian tertiary hospital. For each participant, RCI and Swede Score values were recorded at colposcopy and compared against directed biopsy histopathology as the reference standard. Both scoring systems showed similar, moderate discriminatory ability for CIN2+ (RCI AUC 0.639; Swede Score AUC 0.643), with no statistically significant difference between them (p = 0.862). Neither tool achieved the sensitivity or specificity thresholds recommended for routine clinical use in high-income settings. The data can be used to benchmark colposcopic scoring performance in sub-Saharan African populations, explore optimal score thresholds for this setting, or contribute to future meta-analyses on colposcopic triage accuracy in low- and middle-income countries.
