Mixed afforestation decreased soil organic carbon content but improved the carbon stability in the initial stage of afforestation
Description
The results revealed that abandoned farmland land had the greatest POC/SOC ratio, while three mixed forests had greater MAOC/SOC ratios than POC/SOC in the 0–20 cm layer. High CPMI and SOC fraction contents were found in DBF. Although mixed afforestation decreased SOC content, it improved the stability of SOC.

In September 2023, three 20m×20m quadrats were set at each forest stand and CK, Soil core samples were collected by the ring knife method, and five points were randomly collected at five randomly arranged S-shaped sampling lines in each standard quadrat.SOC was determined by dichromate oxidation method, soil TN, TP and TK content was determined by dichromate oxidation method, Kjeldahl method, and molybdenum antimony colorimetric method, respectively. DOC content was measured by potassium sulfate leaching-potassium dichromate external heating method, ROC was determined by different oxidation solution gradients. POC and MAOC were separated using a wet sievingprocess with the meshsize 53 μm. The LFOC and HFOC concentration were determined by NaI density separation method.
