Indonesian Earthquake Catalog (BMKG), 1998–2024
Description
This dataset contains the official Indonesian earthquake catalog compiled and maintained by the Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, and Geofisika (BMKG). The catalog includes earthquake hypocenter locations, magnitudes, origin times, and associated metadata for seismic events recorded within the Indonesian region from 1998 to 2024. This dataset is an official institutional product of BMKG and is intended to support seismic hazard analysis, tectonic studies, and earthquake-related research.

Data acquisition Earthquake event data were obtained from the official earthquake catalogue maintained by the Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, and Geofisika (BMKG). The dataset includes event origin time (UTC), hypocentral parameters (latitude, longitude, depth), and reported magnitudes for the period 1998–2024. Data selection and filtering Events were selected based on data completeness and consistency. Duplicate records were removed. Events with missing essential parameters were excluded from the compiled catalogue. Data standardization Temporal information was standardized to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Hypocentral coordinates were converted to a uniform geographic reference system (WGS84). Depth values were harmonized to kilometers. Magnitude handling Reported magnitude types provided by BMKG were retained as originally reported. No reinterpretation or re-estimation of magnitudes was performed in this dataset. Where multiple magnitude types were available, all reported values were preserved. Catalogue integration and formatting The cleaned and standardized records were compiled into a single tabular dataset. A consistent column structure and naming convention were applied to ensure interoperability with commonly used seismological software and databases. Quality control Basic consistency checks were performed to identify outliers and formatting errors. Event identifiers were verified to ensure uniqueness across the catalogue. Data export The final dataset was exported in comma-separated values (CSV) format to facilitate reuse and long-term accessibility.
