Description

CAD models of geometry enabling finite element method modeling of drawing polygonal rods in accordance with experiments experimental tests of rod drawing process with use of varied starting diameter resulting in different reduction ratios, carried out for final geometries, square and hexagonal. Varied reduction ratio (z) was meant to indicate capability of attaining satisfactory quality of polygonal cross-section rods, featured by best fill-out of corners and uniformity of strain hardening with simultaneous considerable load and plasticity. For the two geometries included in the study (Fig. 1 a, b), initial rod diameters were selected in a way producing comparable reduction ratios. That means, the initial rod diameter and die profile were chosen so that, when using a square die, the resulting reduction closely matched that applied in a hexagonal die, e.g. S1 with H1 etc.

Steps to reproduce

The models can be readily used for meshing and numerical simulation codes in accordance with procedures of the system concerned. One needs to match the initial rod diameter to type of die - square or hexagonal, so as to create full CAD model and transfer it to the mesher and solver, defining any materials models. Object are a quarters of 3D geometry models, so they must be aligned for symmetry.
