Description

This dataset contains pressure recordings (raw data) from detonations of spherical C-4 charges inside a confined space provided by rigid steel cylinders with pressure sensors (Kulite HKS-375 (M) pressure sensors). Two different internal diameters were used for the rigid steel cylinders, 400 mm and 200 mm. A single test series was performed using the 400 mm cylinder, using charge sizes 50 g, 65 g, 75 g, 100 g, 150 g, 200 g, 300 g, 400 g, 500 g of C-4 with two repetitions of each. Two test series were performed on the 200 mm cylinder; 1) a series of four identical tests detonating 20 g C-4 to test repeatability, and 2) a series with charge sizes 10 g, 16 g, 20 g and 25 g with two repetitions of each, which also included additional external pressure sensors and a high-speed camera for shadowgraphy imaging. All listed charge sizes are without the detonator, which adds an equivalent of approximately 2 g to the charge. The dataset is divided by the steel cylinder diameter and then by test series (for the 200 mm cylinder). Included in each folder is a PDF with a sketch of the experimental setup and the positions of the pressure sensors with respect to the charge. A journal article presenting the results has been published in the journal "Shock Waves", and the article PDF has been added to the dataset. The article DOI link is https://doi.org/10.1007/s00193-024-01161-w and the article is open access.

Steps to reproduce

1. Produce rigid steel cylinders with specified diameters. 2. Place pressure sensors (Kulite HKS-375 (M)) at desired locations. 3. Make C-4 charges of relevant sizes and add detonator. 4. Detonate. 5. Assess pressure recordings.
