A directed acyclic graph (DAG) is a useful tool for research questions on causal associations between exposure and outcome, designing the conceptual framework of a study and developing an analytical plan. A DAG can be used to select covariates for statistical adjustment, identify sources of bias, and support causal interpretation in comparative effectiveness studies. The organization of the data and statistical analyses were performed with the aid of SPSS Statistics (SPSS for Windows, version 25.0, IBM, INC, Amonk, NY, USA). Descriptive statistics were performed. The median (minimum and maximum) of the quantitative variables referring to the domains of the SDSC scale was verified. Unadjusted and adjusted logistic regression were performed using the stepwise backward method to determine associations between SB and the independent variables considering a design effect for complex samples. Variables with a p-value < 0.20 in the unadjusted analysis were incorporated into the multivariate model and those with a p-value < 0.05 after the adjustments were considered significantly associated with probable SB.
