An Image Dataset for Hospital Queue Occupancy Classification in Bangladesh
Description
Public hospitals in Bangladesh face persistent overcrowding at outpatient departments (OPD), registration counters, and pharmacy windows, yet no public image dataset exists for studying it. This dataset contains 836 images of hospital service areas from six public and specialized hospitals in Bangladesh - five in Dhaka (Bangladesh Medical University, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, BIRDEM General Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital) and one in Rajshahi (Rajshahi Medical College Hospital). Images were captured at three high-congestion service points - outpatient departments, registration and ticket counters, and pharmacy dispensing windows - under varied lighting (indoor fluorescent, natural daylight, mixed) and from multiple viewpoints (frontal, side, elevated). Six annotators contributed. Each image carries a binary queue-occupancy label derived from an explicit head-count rule: large - more than 10 people visible in the frame medium - 10 or fewer people visible in the frame Class distribution: 479 large (57.3%), 357 medium (42.7%). The majority-class baseline is therefore 57.3%, against which any reported accuracy should be read. For more details and benchmarking performance, please read our research paper (link is provided).
