EFFECTIVENESS OF INDIVIDUALIZED HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINE IN TREATMENT AND ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY OF LIFE IN VITILIGO: A PRE-POST INTERVENTIONAL STUDY
Description
The study was conducted among patients aged 10–40 years attending the Out-Patient Department of Mahesh Bhattacharyya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Howrah, West Bengal. A total of 38 participants were enrolled, with 34 completing the six-month follow-up. Participants were followed at approximately four-week intervals, allowing clinical and quality-of-life outcomes to be assessed over a six-month period. The primary outcome was measured using the Vitiligo Area Scoring Index (VASI), while the impact of vitiligo on quality of life was assessed using the Vitiligo Impact Scale-22 (VIS-22). Both measures were recorded at baseline and after six months of individualized treatment. In addition to treatment outcomes, the dataset captures a range of participant and disease characteristics, including age, sex, religion, occupation, marital status, educational status, residence, type of vitiligo, anatomical site, disease duration, disease activity, and family history of vitiligo. Individualized homoeopathic prescriptions are also documented. Treatment was individualized according to the totality of symptoms following detailed case taking, with Homoeopathic Materia Medica and repertorization used where necessary. Both Centesimal and Fifty Millesimal potencies were used according to individual requirements. The dataset therefore provides more than a simple before-and-after outcome table: it combines clinical severity, disease-specific quality of life, patient characteristics, disease characteristics, and individualized treatment information within the same participant-level dataset. This structure may be useful for researchers interested in exploring patterns in vitiligo characteristics, treatment prescribing, clinical outcomes, and quality-of-life outcomes.

Participants with vitiligo aged 10–40 years fulfilling the predefined eligibility criteria were enrolled prospectively from the Out-Patient Department of Mahesh Bhattacharyya Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Howrah, West Bengal. A detailed case history was recorded for each participant, and individualized homoeopathic medicine was selected based on the totality of symptoms, with reference to Homoeopathic Materia Medica and repertorization where necessary. Participants were followed at approximately four-week intervals for at least six months. VASI and VIS-22 scores were recorded at baseline and at the final six-month follow-up. Demographic and clinical characteristics and prescribed individualized homoeopathic medicines were recorded in the master chart. The accompanying Codebook describes the variable definitions, categorical coding, and missing-data conventions.
