Description

We conducted a systematic literature review to identify success factors for citizen science projects all over the world. Google Scholar, Scopus and Web of Science were used as web-based scientific platforms for the research. To identify relevant literature, we started broadly with key words such as ‘water’, followed by the process-based terms ‘water quality’ and ‘water monitoring’, concluding with specific water type terms (aquifer, groundwater and surface waters). Moreover, we matched above mentioned key words both with the term ‘citizen science’ and the closely related term ‘community-based monitoring’. Based on the application of these key words, we identified a particularly large body of potentially relevant literature.
