Data, documentation and SAS program used in the elaboration of the manuscript "Geographical variation in demand, utilization, and outcomes of hospital services for COVID-19 in Brazil: a descriptive serial cross-sectional study", submitted to PLOS One. The SIVEP-Gripe, a public and open-access database, comprised of prospectively collected data on Severe Acute Respiratory Illness records and maintained by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, were accessed on the website https://opendatasus.saude.gov.br, on April 19, 2021. The COVID-19 case notification data were obtained from the website https://brasil.io/home/ on April 24, 2021.

Steps to reproduce

The SIVEP-Gripe (SRAG20_19042021, SRAG21_19042021) data is a public and open-access database, comprised of prospectively collected data on Severe Acute Respiratory Illness records and maintained by the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The data employed in the manuscript were accessed on the website https://opendatasus.saude.gov.br, on April 19, 2021. The COVID-19 case notification data were obtained from the website https://brasil.io/home/ on April 24, 2021. The data 'regioesdesaude' was obtained from SUS IT Department (DATASUS) and associates Brazilian Municipalities with Health Regions.
