Digital platform games and first-year university students: A rich sample dataset
Description
The dataset, shared on Mendeley data [1], presents a self-assessment of DPG collected from University of Khartoum and University of Bisha. It consists of seven different Microsoft Excel files plus a single Microsoft Word file represents a questionnaire translated document (named Questionnaire-translated.docx) and ended by an Ethical Clearance Approval (with Arabic name and of extension type.jpeg). The main file is a summary file that contains descriptive statistics for the collected data file (i.e., Summary.xls). The remaining six files were divided into 1) three files each containing an Arabic genuine responses data (i.e., Dataset@UB.xls, Dataset@UofK.xls, Online Dataset.xls); 2) followed by three translated into English version responses data (i.e., Dataset@UB-E.xls, Dataset@UofK-E.xls, Online Dataset-E.xls). The division into these forms was based on the locations, language, or methodological line.

A questionnaire protocol of 40 questions was prepared and reviewed by two reviewers then approved by the Research Ethics Committee at University of Khartoum and for ethical clearance approval. The authors and based on their affilaitions recruited themselves to collect the raw data from both University of Bisha and University of Khartoum. The questionnaire was printed as a hard copy paper supported with pencils, and each author brought it to his/her first-year students' class. Before filling the questionnaires, each author briefly described the research goal for this work and the defined that each student was voluntarily and free to Fill or Not To Fill a questionnaire. In addition to that, each author learned the students the way how to fill out the questionnaire using a pencil and paper. By the end of the class an interested students submitted their answers. Received answers were counted, organized, then using Microsoft Excel 365 was translated/inserted and converted into a digital Excel file form. An HP Laptop with Intel Core i7-5500U CPU@2.40GHz, installed RAM 8 GB DDR3, Graphics card 128 MB, with storage of 512 GB SSD. With windows 11 (64-bit) and Python 3.13 Platform was used to preprocess and visualize the harvested dataset. Empty papers were discarded and missing values(cells) were manipulated using common data engineering calculation processes, i.e., by substituting missing values by median or average. Articles [1,2, 3] were the key references accessed in addition to the authors' compu-educational diversity in the field was utilized. Employing this method 183 responses were collected from Om Durman Compus at Khartoum University, Khartoum, Sudan and 335 responses were gathered from Alnamas Compuses in the University of Bisha, Saudi Arabia. To substitute the parental response number 224 responses were harvested by using an online questionnaire which was configured and carried out in Bisha Compus, Bisha, Saudi Arabia. The final recorded dataset consists of 742 datapoints. Its preprocessed, clean, and open access data for the researchers and stakeholders' reuse.
