Tree regeneration and seedling survival patterns in the Tropical Dry Mixed-Deciduous Forest of Telangana, India

The regeneration status of tree species observed for three years is compiled in 'regeneration status' sheet, the weather pattern during the survey period is provided in 'weather data' sheet, data used for 'survivorship analysis' for selected tree species and data used for impact of habtiat parameters as 'NMDS data' .

Steps to reproduce
For estimating regeneration status, sampling was conducted through phytological surveys with 30 transects, each measuring 250 m in length and 4 m in width (0.1 hectares). In total, 3 hectares area was sampled. Trees, saplings and seedlings were sampled along the transects. To estimate the seedling survival and seedling growth rates, quadrats measuring 1 m × 1 m were placed at every 50 m inside each transect. Consequently, seedling sampling was performed for three consecutive years in six quadrats (area = 6 m²) per transect. Thus, a total of 180 quadrats were sampled across 30 transects. Woody plants with a dbh ≥ 10 cm and a height > 100 cm were considered as mature trees in the transects; individuals with height > 100 cm and a collar diameter ≥ 1 cm and < 10 cm were categorized as saplings. Individuals with a height ≤ 100 cm were identified as unestablished seedlings. For trees, girth was measured at breast height (1.37 m), and height was measured using an altimeter. Canopy cover was estimated as the proportion of canopy openness within each 1 m × 1 m quadrat, using visual assessment to evaluate the impact of canopy openness on the herb and grass community, as well as on regeneration and seedling survival (if any). Precaution was taken to avoid edge effect during sampling.
