Data for: The Cost of Collateral Scarcity: Asset Prices and Misallocation in Supply Crises
Description
Replication package for the paper "The Cost of Collateral Scarcity: Asset Prices and Misallocation in Supply Crises" by Ye Zhang and Ying Tung Chan. The package includes the raw and processed data, and all code needed to reproduce the paper's figures and tables. Data construction and the reduced-form empirical evidence (cross-country house prices, structural VAR/SVAR estimates, panel regressions) are implemented in Stata and Python (Jupyter notebooks); the structural DSGE model is calibrated and simulated in MATLAB with Dynare. Raw data sources include the WHO COVID-19 Dashboard, World Bank World Development Indicators, the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker (OxCGRT), and the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS). One series (cross-country monthly house-price growth) is sourced from CEIC Data under a commercial licence and is replaced here with synthetic pseudo-data preserving the original series' means, standard deviations, and sample sizes. See README.txt for detailed data documentation, software requirements, and step-by-step replication instructions.
