Mapping the Evolution of Climate-Smart Agriculture: A Bibliographic Coupling and Co-word Analysis

This study aims to map the evolution of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) research through a bibliometric approach integrating bibliographic coupling and co-word analysis. This study identifies the intellectual structure, the development of research themes, and emerging trends in CSA studies, while also formulating future research opportunities that support strengthening agricultural resilience, resource optimization, and food system sustainability from an operational management perspective.

Steps to reproduce
The steps in compiling this Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) bibliometric study are as follows: 1. Determining the research focus and objectives The research began by establishing the focus of the study on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) to map research developments, intellectual structure, key themes, and identify future research opportunities from a sustainability and operational management perspective. 2. Developing a data search strategy Data was collected from the Scopus database using keywords related to Climate-Smart Agriculture, climate adaptation, and digital technologies supporting climate-smart agriculture. The search was conducted using titles, abstracts, and keywords (TITLE-ABS-KEY). 3. Establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria The search was limited to documents in the form of articles, written in English, originating from journal sources, and having been published in final publication. 4. Collecting and exporting bibliographic data Bibliographic data that met the criteria were exported from Scopus, resulting in 882 documents for further analysis. 5. Data cleaning and standardization Bibliographic data was examined to ensure consistency, especially for keywords with varying terms or spellings to avoid duplication in the analysis process. 6. Bibliographic coupling analysis Bibliographic coupling analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to identify related research groups based on co-cited references. The results yielded four main research clusters. 7. Co-word analysis Co-word analysis was conducted to map relationships between keywords and identify the thematic landscape of CSA research. The results yielded three main clusters. 8. Interpreting the intellectual structure and development of research themes The results of both analyses were interpreted to understand the relationships between research groups, dominant themes, emerging themes, and the direction of CSA research development. 9. Identifying research gaps and future research opportunities Based on the mapping results, the research identified areas requiring further development, particularly those related to digital technology integration, resource optimization, agricultural resilience, and food system sustainability. 10. Formulating research implications Research findings are used to provide theoretical and practical implications to support the development of resilient, efficient, and sustainable agricultural systems from an operational management perspective.
