The uploaded data present an overview of the global production of seaweeds and global trades of seaweeds and seaweed-derived hydrocolloids (agar-agar, alginate, and carrageenan) in recent years (2007 – 2017); the former was retrieved from the latest FAO reports and FAO online database, and the latter was retrieved from UN Comtrade and ITC Trade Map. Retrieved data sets have been re-organized and sorted into tables presented in the uploaded documents “Seaweed Production Data (FAO).xlsx” and “Seaweed Trade Data and Indicators (UN Comtrade & ITC Trade Map).xlsx.” Furthermore, visualizations of selected trade data are provided in the document “Visualizations of Seaweed Trade (UN Comtrade & ITC Trade Map).docx.” Furthermore, visualizations of selected trade data are provided in the document “Visualizations of Seaweed Trade (UN Comtrade & ITC Trade Map).docx.” The document “Supplementary Information.docx” presents a summary of the details about the uploaded data sets, including data origins, descriptions and calculations of the collected data and indicators, references, and so forth.
