Acoustic Measurements of Edzna Dataset
Description
Context: The archaeological site of Edzna was a large and important Mayan city located in Campeche, about 55 km from the city with the same name. It has impressive structures, the most important of which is called the Five-Story Building, with approximately 30 meters high. The area also has a large bleacher called Nohochna. Despite being an important cultural center, there have been no acoustic measurements that help to know better the worldview of the people who inhabited this place. Also, it allows to try to understand whether they had any notion of acoustics for constructing their buildings. Objective: To obtain acoustic information related to the archaeological site of Edzna, for further studies, simulations, and auralizations of the area. Measurements were taken at 32 points around the archaeological site with 4 sound emission points. Recordings were made using a microphone and a binaural head, which allows for obtaining spatial 3D information. Limitations: Each signal was recorded with speaker positions, one at 0° and the other at 180°, to ensure capturing the information of reflections from the entire area.
