Quantitative dataset on the washing-induced depletion of inorganic gunshot residue (IGSR) on cotton fabric.
Description
This data set is based on the concentrations of lead (208Pb), barium (137Ba), and antimony (121Sb), obtained using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) following the controlled firing experiments carried out with the standard .32-inch Indian Ordnance Factory revolver at the fixed muzzle-to-target distance of 2 inches. After the deposition of IGSR residues, the fabric samples were exposed to five treatments, including negative control, positive control, washing with water, washing with detergent, and washing with soap. The recovery of metallic residues was carried out through the standard procedure of dilute nitric acid extraction of the metal residues. This data set contains both the raw data as well as descriptive statistics, including mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation for each group of data. The depletion of the characteristic IGSR elements during laundering is demonstrated in this data set.
