This table displays measurements from 25 Division I athletes from the NeuroFit eye tracker and Senaptec Sensory Station evaluations. The protocol consisted of a randomized step-ramp presentation of a pursuit and saccade tracking stimulus that consisted of a black dot presented against a uniform white background (Lux = 1417). The Comprehensive Oculomotor Behavioral Response Assessment (COBRA) produced by the NeuroFit ONE provided oculometric performance data for each participant. The COBRA metrics include latency, acceleration, steady-state gain, intrusive saccade amplitude, the spatial proportion smooth pursuit, direction and speed tuning. The Senaptec Sensory Station evaluation involves a standard battery of 10 sensorimotor skills.

Steps to reproduce

Data for the NeuroFit ONE was assessed for quality by visually reviewing an initial gaze calibration to ensure validity in eye tracking. NeuroFit ONE utilizes an infrared sensor with a 250 Hz refresh rate to track eye movements based on dark pupil position. NeuroFit ONE utilizes nine screen locations within a Cartesian grid at increments of 12 degrees for calibration, with a six-parameter fit to the raw digital values for the subject’s fixations (Stone & Liston, 2017). The data collected from eight (5 male, 3 female) participants was dropped from analysis due to observation of poor fixation during the initial gaze calibration. The Senaptec Sensory Station evaluation involves a standard battery of 10 sensorimotor skills. Study design was a cross-sectional investigation to determine which oculometrics best correlate with sensorimotor abilities measured on the Senaptec Sensory Station. Participants first underwent an 8-minute ± 1 minute gaze tracking protocol on the NeuroFit ONE to assess oculometrics including pupillary light reflex, saccadic function, and smooth pursuits. The protocol consisted of a randomized step-ramp presentation of a pursuit and saccade tracking stimulus that consisted of a black dot presented against a uniform white background (Lux = 1417) . The Comprehensive Oculomotor Behavioral Response Assessment (COBRA) produced by the NeuroFit ONE provided oculometric performance data for each participant (Liston & Stone, 2014; Stone & Liston, 2017). Target speed varied randomly across trials, taking one of five values: 16, 18, 20, 22, or 24 deg/s. Target direction is randomly drawn without replacement from a set of 180 evenly spaced directions ranging from 0° to 358° in 2° increments. The COBRA metrics include latency, acceleration, steady-state gain, intrusive saccade amplitude, the spatial proportion smooth pursuit, direction and speed tuning. Proportion smooth pursuit is calculated by subtracting intrusive (catch-up) saccades from the total eye displacement during smooth tracking. A chin and forehead rest that clamped to the edge of the set-up were used for head stabilization. Eye tracking was completed in a large room with limited outdoor light from a few windows with most lighting from ceiling mounted fluorescent lights.
