Ultrasonographic Gallbladder Emptying Data After a Standardized Chocolate Stimulus in Patients with Proteinuria and Healthy Controls
Description
This dataset includes clinical, laboratory, and ultrasonographic data from 106 participants, including 54 healthy controls without proteinuria and 52 patients with proteinuria, evaluated at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital. The dataset was designed to investigate gallbladder emptying function in patients with proteinuria compared with healthy controls. Gallbladder volume was measured by ultrasonography in the fasting state and again 45 minutes after ingestion of a standardized chocolate stimulus containing 40 g chocolate and 194 kcal. Fasting gallbladder volume and 45-minute postprandial gallbladder volume were calculated using the ellipsoid formula: π/6 × width × length × depth. Gallbladder ejection fraction (%) was calculated as: [(fasting gallbladder volume − 45th-minute postprandial gallbladder volume) / fasting gallbladder volume] × 100. The dataset includes demographic variables, clinical characteristics, primary renal disease, renal biopsy diagnosis, proteinuria severity, family history of gallbladder stones, blood pressure measurements, anthropometric parameters, kidney function markers, serum protein and albumin levels, liver function tests, lipid parameters, inflammatory markers, fasting blood glucose, fasting gallbladder volume, postprandial gallbladder volume, and gallbladder ejection fraction. The dataset may be useful for studies investigating the relationship between proteinuria, renal disease characteristics, and gallbladder motility or gallbladder ejection fraction.

The dataset was assembled from healthy controls and patients with proteinuria evaluated at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, renal disease-related, and ultrasonographic data were collected from routine clinical assessments and hospital records. Gallbladder volume was measured by ultrasonography in the fasting state and again 45 minutes after ingestion of a standardized chocolate stimulus containing 40 g chocolate and 194 kcal. Gallbladder volume was calculated using the ellipsoid formula π/6 × width × length × depth, and gallbladder ejection fraction (%) was calculated as [(fasting gallbladder volume − 45th-minute postprandial gallbladder volume) / fasting gallbladder volume] × 100. Proteinuria severity and renal biopsy diagnoses were recorded for the patient group. The dataset was anonymized, organized in Microsoft Excel, and prepared with standardized variable names to support reproducible analysis in R.
