Autism_Awareness_PSA_Reception_Data_2025
Description
This dataset contains the reception analysis data of three public service announcements (PSAs) produced in Türkiye to raise awareness about autism. The PSAs were selected based on YouTube view counts and overall public visibility, representing the most widely circulated autism-focused campaigns in recent years. The dataset was generated as part of a stratified sampling study conducted with undergraduate students in their third and fourth years who do not have an autistic family member. This specific sampling strategy aimed to capture how individuals without direct exposure to autism interpret media representations and construct meaning through PSAs.

After determining the stratified sample, each participant was shown the three most-viewed autism awareness public service announcements (PSAs) on YouTube. Immediately after the viewing session, a one-on-one semi-structured interview was conducted to explore how the experience influenced the participant’s perceptions, emotions, and understanding of autism. All interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, anonymized, and prepared for qualitative analysis. The resulting transcripts were then interpreted using content analysis, following an inductive coding approach to identify recurring themes, patterns, and meaning-making processes.
