Description

This dataset provides daily bias-corrected Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station data (CHIRPS) for Bangladesh from 1 January 1985 to 31 December 2024. The data are provided in NetCDF format at the original CHIRPS spatial resolution of 0.05° (approximately 5 km). Observed daily precipitation records from Bangladesh Meteorological Department stations were used to evaluate and correct the corresponding CHIRPS precipitation estimates. Two statistical bias-correction methods were applied independently: linear scaling and quantile mapping. Linear scaling adjusts precipitation values using the systematic difference between observed and CHIRPS precipitation, whereas quantile mapping adjusts the statistical distribution of CHIRPS precipitation to correspond more closely with the observed distribution. The repository contains two separate compressed datasets: CHIRPS daily precipitation corrected using linear scaling. CHIRPS daily precipitation corrected using quantile mapping. The dataset is intended to support climate-data evaluation, hydrological and agricultural modelling, drought assessment, extreme-precipitation analysis, crop modelling, water-resource assessment and climate-risk research in Bangladesh. Users should cite both this dataset and the original CHIRPS data product when using these files. Users should also examine the accompanying validation information and select the correction method appropriate for their application. Although bias correction can reduce systematic discrepancies between satellite-based and station observations, it does not eliminate all observational uncertainty, particularly in areas with sparse station coverage.
