Description

Cross-sectional, hypothesis-free proteomic study aimed at identifying novel serum biomarkers in MS. A stepwise, or“triangular” biomarker discovery strategy was employed. This approach began with an exploratory discovery phase using advanced proteomic techniques (ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry) to identify as many novel dysregulated serum proteins as possible in a small, well-characterized group of untreated patients. This approach, standard in exploratory proteomics, is designed to generate comprehensive, unbiased data to inform downstream analyses.
