Leptin Patient
Description
The dataset underlying this manuscript comprises 55 participants recruited as a case–control series: 30 patients with an ocular or ocular adnexal tumour and 25 tumour-free controls. Cases are further divided by diagnosis into 20 benign and 10 malignant lesions. Controls were patients attending the same clinic for refractive error, principally myopia and presbyopia, with no ocular or adnexal mass. The file holds one record per participant. Recorded variables are participant initials, a study sample code (K_ for controls, P_ for cases), serum leptin concentration in ng/mL, body weight in kilograms, height in centimetres and metres, body mass index with its Asia-Pacific category, sex, age in years, tumour type, and the clinical or histopathological diagnosis. Body mass index is a derived field, calculated as weight divided by height squared; it was not measured directly. Observed ranges are: serum leptin 1.01 to 269.81 ng/mL, age 22 to 69 years, and body mass index 16.2 to 32.3 kg/m². Forty-one participants are female and 14 male. Leptin values carry the full precision of the microplate reader output.

Steps to reproduce
Data were collected at the Reconstruction and Oncology Division, Department of Ophthalmology, Prof. dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, Medan, Indonesia, from December 2025, under ethics approval 1458/KEPK/USU/2025. Weight and height were each measured twice in light clothing without shoes, and the mean of the two readings recorded. Venous blood was drawn in the fasting state, allowed to clot, centrifuged, and the serum stored frozen until batch analysis; leptin was assayed in duplicate by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay against the calibrators supplied with the kit. In the malignant group, blood was drawn after surgical excision of the lesion. Statistical analysis was carried out in SPSS and independently reproduced from the raw file in Python 3 using pandas, SciPy, and statsmodels. The two sets of results agreed to the third decimal place. Every value reported in the manuscript derives from this file; none was altered.
