Description

This dataset contains the de-identified raw data, analysis syntax, and supplementary materials supporting the findings reported in the manuscript by Liu et al. (under review at Body Image). Data were collected in two complementary studies approved by the Academic Ethics Committee of the School of Psychology, Northwest Normal University (approval no. 2023-03-012). Written informed consent was obtained from all participants and their guardians. Files & formats Study1_RawData.csv – experimental data (n = 152; between-subjects factors: gender, image condition; within-subjects factor: pre/post self-esteem). Study2_RawData.csv – survey data (n = 961; variables: social-media-use scale, BAS-2, RSES, gender, grade, urban/rural). Codebook.pdf – variable labels, reverse-scoring rules, and scale references. Analysis_Syntax.sps – SPSS PROCESS code used for mediation analyses. README.txt – step-by-step instructions to reproduce all results and tables.
