Description

This dataset consolidates monthly time series on Ukraine's money supply (M0-M3), deposit dollarization, the National Bank of Ukraine discount rate, and official reserve assets, covering January 2003 through June 2026, with an annual figure retained for 2002. The dataset is designed to complement this author's Ukrainian banking sector dataset series with a monthly-frequency monetary counterpart. Where the banking sector datasets in this series are built primarily at annual frequency from individual bank and system-aggregate reporting, this dataset provides the higher-frequency monetary aggregates against which banking sector behaviour, in particular deposit currency structure and the transmission of the discount rate, can be benchmarked at monthly resolution over a much longer span, including the pre-2014 and pre-2022 periods. METHODOLOGY & SOURCES All figures are taken directly from the National Bank of Ukraine's official publication "Monetary Statistics" (Грошово-кредитна статистика), specifically table 2.1 (refinancing interest rates), table 3.1.5 (monetary aggregates and corresponding items of the Depository Corporations Survey), table 3.1.6 (components of monetary aggregates), and table 3.1.9 (official reserve assets). No figures have been estimated, interpolated, or otherwise modified, with the sole exception of the calculated dollarization measure described below. The column deposit_dollarization_pct is calculated, not published directly by the NBU as a single series. It is computed as fx_deposits divided by (fx_deposits + national_currency_deposits), multiplied by 100, where fx_deposits is the sum of foreign-currency transferable deposits and foreign-currency other deposits, and national_currency_deposits is the same two categories in hryvnia, all four components taken from NBU table 3.1.6. This measure covers deposits only, namely transferable and other deposits; it excludes cash in circulation (M0) and the debt securities component of M3. Two known coverage gaps are documented directly in the Dictionary sheet rather than filled by estimation. The NBU discount rate is available in the source at monthly granularity only from 2006-01 onward; for 2002-2005 the source publishes annual values only, and those months are left blank in this dataset rather than back-filled. Official reserve assets are available at monthly granularity only from 2005-01 onward, and earlier months are blank for the same reason.
