Description

In this dataset, we provide the supplementary material of the paper "Feed efficiency in dairy sheep: An insight from the milk transcriptome". The knowledge of the genetic architecture behind feed efficiency would allow breeding more efficient animals maximizing farm profitability and reducing the environmental impact of animal production. This study analyzes high throughput gene expression data from milk samples to determine key genes and biological mechanisms associated to feed efficiency in dairy sheep. This research demonstrates the informative potential of the milk transcriptome as a target tissue to determine the biological basis of feed efficiency in dairy sheep, highlighting the importance of genes involved in cell division and lipid metabolism in the lactating mammary gland of high-feed efficiency sheep.
