This dataset contains Figure 4, “Scarcity-to-Consumer-Price Transmission Chain,” from Nicolin Decker’s The Demographic Load Doctrine: Population Growth, Agricultural Land Loss, Water Scarcity, and Consumer Price Stability Through 2100. The figure is an author-generated conceptual model illustrating how population growth may increase aggregate demand, interact with capacity systems, reduce strategic margin, transmit through production and distribution costs, and ultimately affect households and national resilience. The model is not presented as a predictive econometric forecast. Rather, it is a systems-level framework for visualizing how demographic load can propagate through farmland availability, water scarcity, infrastructure load, energy demand, housing demand, and transportation demand before appearing as higher production, processing, transportation, and retail costs. The figure further connects household-level effects—food prices, housing prices, water bills, and energy costs—to broader resilience concerns, including reduced disposable income, reduced economic flexibility, higher public stress, greater institutional demand, and reduced strategic margin. Figure 4, “Scarcity-to-Consumer-Price Transmission Chain,” is a conceptual systems model derived from federal demographic, agricultural, economic, infrastructure, and resilience frameworks. Step 1 – Population Growth Use U.S. Census Bureau, 2023 Population Projections for the Nation by Age, Sex, Race, Hispanic Origin, and Nativity, to establish the future population denominator. Step 2 – Higher Aggregate Demand Apply the principle that larger populations increase demand for food, water, housing, energy, transportation, and public services, consistent with FEMA’s National Preparedness Goal. Step 3 – Capacity Systems Identify sustaining infrastructure through DHS NIPP 2013, PPD-21, and CISA Critical Infrastructure Sectors: Food and Agriculture, Water and Wastewater, Energy, Transportation, and Critical Manufacturing. Step 4 – Resource Constraints Assess agricultural land using USDA NASS, 2022 Census of Agriculture; water scarcity using USDA ERS climate and irrigation research; and infrastructure load using DHS/CISA resilience frameworks. Step 5 – Reduced Strategic Margin Assess how land, water, energy, housing, and transportation constraints reduce buffer capacity. Anchor this stage in DHS NIPP 2013, DHS Resilience Framework, and PPD-21’s resilience definition, which emphasizes preparation, adaptation, continuity, and recovery. Step 6 – Economic Transmission Model how constraints move through production, processing, transportation, and retail costs. Use USDA productivity research to identify output and input-efficiency factors, and BLS consumer-price frameworks to connect system costs to retail-price indicators.
