In this study, data were collected from the Netflix documentary Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso, which presents a linguistically and emotionally complex narrative situated in Indonesian legal and cultural contexts. Because the official subtitles are embedded in the video stream and not available as separate files, the Indonesian spoken dialogue was manually transcribed by the researchers. These transcriptions were then meticulously aligned with the corresponding English subtitles as displayed on-screen, using timestamp cues to ensure accurate pairing. This process yielded a dataset of 805 subtitle pairs, each comprising the original Indonesian utterance and its English subtitle version. To enable qualitative and corpus-informed analysis, each pair was annotated with additional contextual information, including scene type (e.g., courtroom, interview, narration), speaker role, and notable multimodal features such as tone of voice, camera focus, or background audio. This alignment allowed for detailed coding of translation shifts and equivalence strategies, while the multimodal layer provided insight into how subtitles respond to or suppress pragmatic and cultural nuance. Although this study focused on textual analysis, the data collection process was designed with future reception-oriented research in mind, offering a foundation for exploring how audiences interpret subtitled discourse in emotionally charged, culturally specific narratives distributed on global streaming platforms.
