A data-driven evaluation of chitosan, clybio and Paraburkholderia synergy for improving yield and biochemical traits of onion (Allium sepa L.)
Description
In the subtropics, onions face challenges of optimum production and quality due to adverse climate fluctuations and imbalanced agronomic practices. This data file describes the impact of integrated foliar application of chitosan, clybio and Paraburkholderia fungorum on plant growth, bulb yield, biochemical properties and functional attributes in onion under fluctuating subtropical weather conditions. Chitosan (100 and 200 ppm), clybio (a yeast and Bacillus blend at 0.5%) and Paraburkholderia fungorum BRRh-4 (1.5 × 10^9 CFU/mL) were applied eleven combinations plus a control (no bio-agents) following a randomized complete block design with three replications. Data were recorded on 21 parameters related to vegetative, reproductive, biochemical, nutritional and mineral properties of onion. Further, statistical analysis and graphical representation confirmed the superior treatment for improving yield and quality of onion under such challenging environments.

Steps to reproduce
The experiment was carried out in the Madhupur Tract (Agroecological Zone 28), which has shallow red brown terrace soil (20.45ºN latitude, 90.21ºE longitude, and about 34 meters above sea level) and characterized by unstable subtropical climate featuring moderate to heavy precipitation, high relative humidity, warm weather, and relatively longer daytime from April to September. In contrast, October to March period had very low rainfall, low-to-moderate humidity, cool temperature, and a relatively shorter day length. Three types of bio-stimulants, namely chitosan oligosaccharide (95% deacetylated; shrimp shell derivative) in two distinct level viz., 100 parts per million (ppm) and 200 ppm, plant probiotic bacteria namely, Paraburkholderia fungorum strain BRRh-4 at 1.5 × 10^9 CFU/mL concentration, and clybio (a complex blend of yeast fungus, Bacillus natto, and Lactobacillus) at 0.5% dose were applied as foliar spray in eleven different combinations along with control. Randomized complete block design was assigned taking three replications. The bio-stimulant formulations were sprayed in the foliage at 20, 40 and 60 days after transplanting (DAT). Data on vegetative parameters namely plant height, leaf number, root number and root length was collected at 90 DAT. Again, total number of bulbs, individual bulb weight (g) and yield per plot (kg) were estimated using a digital balance during harvest. Onion yield per hectare (t) was calculated. Thereafter, biochemical and functional properties namely dry matter (%), total sugars (%), total soluble solids (%), ascorbic acid (mg CA/100 g), total phenols (mg GAE/100 g) and total flavonoids (mg QE/100 g) were determined in fresh weight basis following standard procedures. In addition, mineral constituents like K, Na, Mg, Ca, Fe, S and P were assessed in the laboratory and expressed as percentage of dry weight. All the data were then subjected to statistical analysis where ANOVA and mean separation were conducted taking p < 0.05 at significantly different. Statistical analysis was performed using R software (version 4.2.0).
