To address our research questions, we employed a descriptive and causal non-experimental research design within the field of pedagogical research (Cenčič, 2009; European Union, 2019; Sagadin, 1993). The study was conducted using a survey-based methodology, designed to examine perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence (AI), including language models and user applications, in higher education. The target group was comprised of professionals in higher education (teachers and researchers) in Slovenia, Balkans (Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria) and other countries, mainly from Europe and North America. We sent questionnaires to different e-mail addresses within researchers’ network and within network of institution. The survey was targeting the higher education teachers, researchers and other relevant higher education professionals. For the quality of the results analysis, we wanted to include as many respondents as possible. For better comparison of results, we prepared and sent the survey outside Slovenia, to researcher’ network of higher education teachers and researchers in Balkans, Europe and North America. The questionnaire was designed in the open source application 1KA (Version 24.05.29, 2024), which provides an online survey service. The questionnaire was translated from Slovenian language to English and Serbo-Croatian language. The application also allows us to save and analyse the data. The survey was conducted from June to September 2024.
