Digital Archive of Judicial Conduct - Decisions 2021
Description
The Digital Archive of Judicial Conduct: Disciplinary Decisions (UK, 2021) presents official JCIO records, including disciplinary statements, annual reports (2014–2022), and the 2023 Judicial Conduct Rules. The JCIO, under the Lord Chancellor and Lady Chief Justice, investigates judicial misconduct (defined as personal misbehaviour warranting formal disciplinary action). The archive comprises published, publicly accessible decisions regarding misconduct investigations into UK judges, tribunal members, and coroners. The archive contains disciplinary decisions in the form of date-stamped PDFs with preserved source URLs. This dataset supports research into judicial accountability, disciplinary trends, and comparative legal systems, with applications in academia, policy analysis, and investigative journalism. Method: Dataset Construction Source Document Acquisition: Annual reports, corporate policies, and contextual background data were gathered directly from the target organisations' official repositories. Web Content Capture: Supplementary web pages were accessed via a standard web browser using their direct URLs. Provenance Logging: For each web page captured, the specific URL and a real-time data stamp were embedded directly into the header using the browser's native print-to-PDF function. Dataset Assembly: The collected files, comprising annual reports, policy documents, background material, and stamped PDFs, were compiled and organised into a single, standardised dataset.
