Examining the Efficacy of Strategies for Enhancing Sports Training and Coaching Methods
Description
In today’s world, there are increased levels of stress, anxiety, pressure, and motivational issues experienced by athletes. Coaches may find it difficult to provide psychological support, constructive feedback, and proper communication. This paper aims to combine psychological and feedback elements to make coaching more effective and successful for the athletes. A mixed-methods cross-sectional approach was employed with 64 coaches and 193 athletes in China. Data collection and analysis were done both quantitatively (SPSS, SmartPLS) and qualitatively (QDA Miner Lite based on 10 athletes and 6 coaches). There is a significant relationship between psychological support (β = 0.380), feedback mechanism (β = 0.301), coach-athlete relationship (β = 0.398), goal setting and resilience (β = 0.243), and coaching effectiveness. Coaching effectiveness predicted athletic achievement (β = 0.547, p = 0.001). Significant indirect effects through coaching effectiveness were also found (β = 0.133 to 0.218). Qualitative findings corroborate the statistical assessments by pointing out constructive criticism (43.80%), trust and communication (31.30% each), stress and anxiety reduction (37.50%), customized coaching (37.50%), and SMART goal setting (37.50%). Integrating interconnected factors such as psychology, feedback, relationships, and development concepts provides a way for coaching effectiveness and achievement. Psychological support, positive feedback, a good coach-athlete relationship, goal setting, and resilience lead to improved coaching and performance in sport. Sports organizations should embrace holistic coaching approaches to increase athletic performance.
