From January 21 to June 9, 2020, approximately 3.7 million tweets in English containing related keywords regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, such as “coronavirus,” “COVID-19,” “corona,” “social distancing,” and “quarantine,” were collected. Using other sets of keywords related to traditional finance and cryptocurrency markets, we refiltered the tweets to identify the joint discourse of traditional financial or cryptocurrency markets and COVID-19 topics. Three specific datasets were constructed: tweets regarding COVID-19 in general (from January to June 2020), tweets regarding COVID-19 and financial information, and tweets regarding COVID-19 and cryptocurrency information.
